Somebody to Love, American Medium, Brooklyn, NY, 2015
Created as the recipient of American Medium’s first Artist-In-Residency program, this 6-week project was developed through collaboration with three high school-aged interns, all alumni of a guest artist project I taught that was run through the Museum of Modern Art’s teen programming department. The exhibition connects these collaborator’s list of “pop culture heroes” (Britney Spears, Lil’ Kim, etc.) with a dedication to a pop culture hero from another era—Freddy Mercury. The final piece takes its aesthetic inspiration from the painting, Sts. Cosmas and Damien (1370-75) by Matteo di Pacino.
