VIDEO INFO:
This 20-minute video is a re-creation of a monumental Fra Angelico painting, in which the story behind the imagery was re-constructed by myself and six high school and college students, and was inspired by a variety of pop culture moments including a haunted cave scene from the 1980s television show “Punky Brewster”, a re-creation of a scene from Jim Henson’s “The Dark Crystal”, and the poppy field scene from “The Wizard of Oz”.
In the final scene, friends were asked to choose their personal heroes who have deceased during their lifetimes as characters they would impersonate. Characters chosen included Mr. Rogers, Eartha Kitt as “Yzma”, Robin Williams, Selena, Amy Winehouse, Heath Ledger and others. Overall, this project was in process for over a year, with over forty individuals, ages 8-57, aiding in its creation.
This video was created as part of a large-scale immersive installation, embedded into two separate cave sets at the Hole in New York, NY. The project’s second component was a live performance series also titled “One Sweet Day”; a 35 minute live mini-musical which involved 40 costumed characters and a multitude of puppets and moving parts.
